Penfolds Range Tasting

On Wednesday we welcomed Sam Stephens, brand ambassador for Penfolds Wines to our cellars for a fun and informative staff tasting session.

He brought some fantastic wines for us to taste, including;
  • Bin 311 Chardonnay 2014
  • Bin 28 Shiraz 2013
  • Bin 138 Shiraz Grenache Mataro 2013
  • Bin 389 Cab Shiraz 2013
  • Bin 150 Shiraz 2013
  • St Henri Shiraz
  • RWT Shiraz 2013
(he must have mislaid the bottle of Grange he'd lined up for us!)

The team were unanimous in their love of the wines on show, with the most popular being the St Henri and the RWT (unsurprising considering the prices they fetch!).

For those of you who aren't familiar with the Penfolds winery, it was founded in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfold, an English physician who had emigrated to Australia, with his wife, Mary. The Wine and Spirit magazine has voted Penfolds 'Winery of the year' a record 23 times, more than any other winery in the world. Their most famous wine is undoubtedly 'Grange', which was first released in 1951 and retails at no less than £400 per bottle (no wonder that bottle was mislaid!).

Don't worry, it isn't the entire range that reaches these price levels, and with a range of 32 wines, they have wines to suit every budget. If you would like to find out more about the Penfolds wines we currently stock give our friendly team of wine advisors a call on 03330 148210.
